Graduate and Postdoctoral Research Appointments
Research Assistant (Engineer/Scientist) (ref. KA16141)
Semiconductor Processing Engineer
- Grade: Research Assistant
- Salary: £23,811-£26,779 p.a.
- Limit of tenure: Two years in the first instance
Applications are invited for the position of Semiconductor Processing Engineer within the Semiconductor Physics Research Group in the Cavendish Laboratory.
The Group is engaged in research into advanced semiconductor devices and has a number of cleanrooms housing extensive semiconductor processing facilities, including optical lithography, metals deposition, dry and wet etching, dicing, bonding, ellipsometry and scanning probe microscopy etc. It also has an Ultra High Resolution E-beam Lithography suite which provides services for both internal and external customers.
A person is sought to assist in the day-to-day processing of advanced semiconductor devices for research staff and students, and to prepare data and pre- and post- process substrates for the E-Beam Lithography facility. He/she will also be expected to develop new processes to complement various current research programs. Other responsibilities will include general maintenance of semiconductor processing equipment and of the cleanrooms.
Previous experience in the fabrication of semiconductor devices would be advantageous but not essential as training can be given, especially to a new/recent graduate. More important attributes are those of a person who is careful and accurate and who is comfortable working with delicate instruments. A candidate with a degree or the equivalent in engineering or the physical sciences would be preferred.

General Information about the Semiconductor Physics Group
The Semiconductor Physics group at the Cavendish Laboratory is headed by Professor David Ritchie. The group has various MBE growth systems and a large clean-room for the fabrication of samples using optical and state-of-the-art electron-beam lithography. There are also extensive cryogenic facilities with temperatures as low as 25mK and magnetic fields up to 18T being routinely used. Click here for more information.
